Al-Shaddadi Location

Arabic name: مدينة الشدادي. According to Wikimapia, it's here, a ways south of Hasakah. Not sure about the Syrian Petroleum Company location. To the northeast Wikimapia has a compound of some "Chinese company". North, is "Land Narrator," a "station" --Caustic Logic (talk) 05:08, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

SOHR Reports and Videos

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on its Facebook page Feb. 17:

al-Nusra Front execute 5 persons in al-Shaddadi
Hasakah province: Footage was sent to the SOHR of the aftermath of the execution of 5 people by the extremist al-Nusra Front. This occurred in a Syrian Petroleum Company building in the city of al-Shaddadi on Tuesday 12/2/2013. The identity of the 5 men is still unknown, it is also unclear whether they were civilians, security guards working for the company or if they were part of the regime forces. The footage indicates that they were executed for sectarian motives, with the fighters and cameraman repeating that those killed are shi'ites, infidels, and pigs.
The al-Nusra have taken full control of the city of Shaddadi on Wednesday after violent clashes that lasted for 3 days. It resulted in the death of 40 al-Nusra Front rebel fighters (7 were non-Syrian fighters from Kuwait and Iraq) and no less than 100 members of the regular forces, including officers. The SOHR also reported that there was information that tens of Syrian Petroleum workers were killed by the rebels after al-Nusra took over the management buildings and the workers' residential quarters.

Final minimum genocide toll here: five plus "tens." A video is included. I'll watch it soon. --Caustic Logic (talk) 06:43, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

The video (تصفية عناصر من النظام السوري في مدينة الشدادي +18) is 1:37 in length (repeated) and stabilized, SOHR posting, Feb.17. Two very messy head-shot victims are shown, outside the building, one victims inside, and two out the other side, killed by indistinct gunshot, it seems. They wear mostly military clothing. They show signs of prior injuries and basic medical treatment. One of the last victims has a hand bandaged with what looks like a red sweater. The one inside was executed as he lay on a stretcher - covered in a white robe, but military-looking pants and boots peek out. From the dialog I can make out Syria, Nusra, and Alahu Akbar. --Caustic Logic (talk) 10:21, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

SOHR reports on the takeover, Feb. 14:

Hasakah province: Rebel fighters from Jabhat al-Nusra have taken almost full control over the city of al-Shadadi, after violent clashes that lasted for 3 days. Sporadic gunfire can be heard coming from the area by the Military Intelligence branch of the city, it is thought that its surrounding buildings are manned by snipers. Violent clashes are taking place with the regime checkpoints in the outskirts of the city. Jabhat al-Nusra have used several suicide car bombs during the 3 days of fighting. 30 Jabhat al-Nusra fighters were killed by the clashes, 5 of them were non-Syrian fighters (they were Kuwaiti and Iraqi). No less than 100 members of the regular army and security services were also killed. There are also reports that tens of civilian workers at the Syrian oil company were killed after al-Nusra fighters took large parts of the oil fields and the residential quarters of the workers.

Again a video is included: سيطرة جبهة النصرة على مناطق في مدينة الشدادة Triumphant rebels root through a building they've taken and abuse a portrait of Assad. One dead soldier is shown, executed some time prior (his blood is all dried). One of the living Jihadists really, really wants us to know that his God is the greatest. 1:17, "Allahu Akbar" repeated at least 40 times, mostly by the one guy.
