From A Closer Look On Syria

This could have a discussion page. I like the colors on these maps. Kind of wild. I didn't realize how close this is to Gorlovka, right at the crucial hub between Lugansk and Donetsk. And Gorlovka itself is solidly in "Opolchenie" hands, good, that wasn't always so. I'm that hazy on the war details I wasn't sure about that. --Caustic Logic (talk) 15:29, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

More brown on the map means higher up. If you are there you can see/correct fire better, and your bullets, etc, are helped by gravity, while it is uphill for your enemy. Also gives a space to hide/store stuff easily, while downhill anything is open. Being uphill is considered (an important) advantage at war time --Resup (talk) 16:41, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
Topographical, high ground, yes. I'm not that hazy :) But someone might be, so good adds. --Caustic Logic (talk) 02:27, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
